The Future of MindTweaks: Plotting & Planning in 2009

by ToriDeaux on January 3, 2009

I don’t much go in for New Years Resolutions.  It’s too much pressure, and  too much public humiliation when I inevitably fail at whatever grand over achieving scheme I’ve vowed to undertake.

Still, there’s a sense of obligation with this  blog, and a feeling that to be really connected and part of the community, I must somehow write a post about resolutions, goals, plans, reviews, and the like.

Have I mentioned that I hate plans goals and obligations?

Well, I do.  And yet here I am, determined to give you a glimpse of what is in the future for MindTweaks.  (See how I suffer for you?)  So here are the admittedly loose knit plans, in no particular order.

The Really Big Thing:

The first quarter of 2009 should bring about the launch of the MindTweaks e-Course, all about the care and feeding of your brain.  Other things may be a bit slow while I push to get it finished up, but I think it’ll be worth the wait!

The Forums:

Officially, they forums will be set up as part of the e-Course, but I’m still considering opening part of up as a more general, open forum on all things MindTweakish.   If I decide to go that route, it’ll be after the e-Course beta.

Posts In The Pipeline:

  • A test and review of MindSparke
  • A follow up on the Brain Fitness definition post
  • Review of the Guru book
  • A deeper look at Holosync and the alternatives
  • New Age Circles of Scams
  • How To Think Like A Shaman (without being one)
  • Summary of Brain Fitness Products
  • Introduction to meditation

Blog Changes and Improvements:

  • The Return of Categories & Tags: I’ve gotten REALLY sloppy about this one, and it will get fixed. (anyone want to volunteer to straighten it out? No? Sigh.)
  • The Return of Weekly Tweeks: Though it might be bi-weekly, unless someone volunteers to help with it!
  • A MindTweaks Store: With software, books, assorted products, and maybe even some cool MindTweaks Cafepress or Zazzle items :)
  • Upgrading to the latest release of Thesis (the theme that runs this site): I’ve procrastinated because of all my own uber sloppy customizations.  The good news? The way Thesis works now, future upgrades should be a snap.
  • Making A Better Use of Twitter: I want to use Twitter to nudge people about steps for brain health. Longer term, this will probably be a separate Twitter account, and associated with the e-Course, but there’s no reason not to start incorporating it now.

Now You’re Cooking With Brains!

This one promises to be really fun…  a brain-smart recipe contest.  It probably won’t happen till the 2nd quarter, but can’t you already taste all those blueberry muffin recipes? ;)   And in the end, we’ll wind up with an actual cookbook and actual muffins!

Got Any Better Ideas?

Chime in about this blog, your blog, or your own plans and goals for 2009.  What’s in store for your mind?

Tori,
Love your site, especially love the way you have put it together with the Thesis and plug ins… My mission for 2009 will be to interview you or one of your ’selve’s - what your experience has been with blogging and connecting with so many interesting folks.

I am going to do a complete, clean redo over at CorePsychBlog with Semiologic… but with my HTML shortcomings it might be awhile.

- My new book on the many problems with ADD meds out soon, will send out a free copy to early sign ups, and some other free goodies yet to be created. I have a new name for the book, want to lock down the URL, - “Fixing the Medication Madness” seems a bit off putting.

Love the writing process, punching out many Ezine Articles is yet another objective.

Will be in touch,
Watching your tweets!
Chuck

2009 for me will include developing my own blog: http://www.chasingsanity.com - similar in nature, but different just the same. That and a 2nd blog still under development: http://www.elderguru.com.

I’ll be looking for your new posts.

@Mike I’m still working out the forum options, but I do like the idea of it being more open and broader in scope. And I look forward to your list - I’ve been amazed at how far you’ve come so fast!

@Chuck Oh interviews.. YAY! I’d love it. Pester me, please, and I’ll be happy to participate. Great to hear about the book, and I always debate domain name selections. How about just MedicationMadness.com? Someday I’ll get ’round to those EZine articles, too…. Happy Writing!

@Erin I hope you know I’m dragging you along with me for the ride!

@Derrick! OMG, I already love ChasingSanity. Seriously. How could I NOT love someone whose about page includes this: “I mix philosophical cement, spiritual aggregate, and life’s water into chunks of concrete that I bash against my head and hurl at readers.” Awesomeness, dude.
