What’s YOUR Learning Style? (Self Assessment)

by ToriDeaux on February 5, 2008

Instead of listening to me yammer on and on about Learning Styles, I thought you’d rather just have a link.

http://www.learning-styles-online.com/inventory/questions.asp

So. Go there.  Answer the questions. Discover your learning style. Report back!

(It’s a free test, with free results, though they do offer an optional “Full Report” for $6.95.   If you order one, let me know, I’d like to see what it looks like.)

The site itself is worth wandering around for a bit.  One bit I found especially interesting was the associations between learning-styles and activity in various parts of the brain. That knowledge didn’t leave me especially enlightened, but I did find it interesting.

Oh, and my own results?  The test showed a pretty even balance, but with slight preferences to Visual, Verbal and Social styles.  From personal experience, I can say that “social” learning is almost crucial for me - without someone to toss ideas around with, processing information is much, much more difficult.

What styles did you score highest in?

The styles I scored highest in Physical and Aural, both are 18. Verbal and Soilitary are tied at 17. Very interesting test!

Thanks for sharing that, Jackie. I really would like a better view of the readership’s learning styles. Maybe I need to make up my own version of the test? One with pretty colors!(that’s my own visual style creeping in!)

You’re welcome!

You are so clever. It would be a great test! Pretty colors would be awesome too.

I’m not at all surprised to find my style is highly logical (18 pts), verbal (17 pts), and solitary (15 pts). I’m mid-range at visual, social and physical (11, 9 and 8 pts respectively). Last and least, with a measly 5 points, I am aural. Alas… I’m oral, but not aural.

Excuse me Your Antleriness, but I’m *not* the one who dragged your mind into the gutter (innocent look).

I hope the results do not distress you!! Interesting how over time they have changed to more solitary. VAKOG is another way to understand in genral terms how you received information.

I am very concerned about the logical score. Does not compute!

Ok, Mr.Spock, you sent me scrambling for Google that time! (for others who may be wondering, VAKOG is Visual-Auditory-Kinesthetic-Olfactory-Gustatory, a description of sensory processing/memory that comes from NeuroLinguistic Processing)

It is interesting about the change over time - and that your two highest scores are *both* Solitary and Social. I’ve had to develop more solitary learning strategies, because of a lack of good groups to work with - did you perhaps have a similar experience?
