Brain-booms, Brain-waves, Brain-games (and online counseling to boot!)

by ToriDeaux on March 13, 2008

Yesterday, I promised you a personal story as Part 2 of “Does Enlightenment = Neurogenesis?” — unless my brain exploded.

Well, guess what?

That’s right, Kaboom.

It’s nothing serious, I’m sure, just a minor relapse of Privaticus Neuroticus. While my neural network is being put back in order, I thought I’d play catch up with a new software release, an awesome list of counseling resources, a little brain-fun, and way too many hyperlinks!

Mind WorkStation Released!

Remember MindStereo, the so-cool-it-causes-brainfreeze entrainment program/media player? The developers have just released their lastest offering, Mind WorkStation - and it offers some seriously professional tweakage.

In fact, it was created with professionals (therapists, researchers and their ilk) in mind. It’s a bit pricier than the other Transparent Corp offerings, but.. I’m still in awe at the list of new features. Mind Workstation truly deserves a review post all to itself, but I wanted to at least mention it now. There is, of course, a free demo! And no, I’m not an affiliate (yet) I’m just honestly hyped about this one!

So go check it out.

Online Counseling Resource List

Over on Elemental Truths, Reg has put together an extensive listing of online counseling resources. Though obviously not appropriate in all cases, online and telephone therapy is convenient, usually less expensive, and it turns out to be surprisingly effective. Since the client is in their own home, there’s less stress, anxiety, and self consciousness. Many people report feeling more comfortable opening up and being honest, when they aren’t face to face with a therapist. And many potentially embarrassing issues (which sometimes keep people out of counseling altogether) can be brought up with a lot less discomfort.

When dealing with an upset, agitated and over wrought friend, coworker or family member, it’s much easier to get them to consider this sort of situation, than asking them to deal with the stress of seeking out and entering into conventional therapy.

FitBrains Stops By For A MindTweak

Michael Cole, of the FitBrains website, dropped by the blog for a quick comment the other day. His brain-child (sorry, I couldn’t resist), FitBrains.com, is still in Beta, and again, I haven’t had a chance to give it a test whirl yet. (This whole having-a-life thing sure gets in the way)

But on the surface, it looks like a mind training program with more of a popular-game feel, as opposed to the exercise-feel most of the brain training programs opt for. It does offer progress tracking features, which I love, and a colorful Web2.0 interface, and I’m such a sucker for pretty graphics.

You can get access to the site for free while it’s in Beta testing, or just check out some of the games without registering.

Let me know what you think!

Ok, that’s all for now. Maybe by tomorrow I’ll have crawled back from under the covers, ready to reveal my personal tales. If not? Well, you know where to find me!

Hey MT, thanks for your kind words about Mind WorkStation. We worked very hard on it. :)

I admit I’ve become a regular reader since I stumbled on your first review of Mind Stereo a year ago. You’re a natural writer, keep it up!

You’re very welcome Adam; I’m eager to try it out next week.

I’m so glad to know you’re a reader, and thanks for the encouragement :) I’m a regular over at http://www.MindUpdate.com, too, and looking forward to your return to regular blogging!
