How I Became Aware Of My Own Brain

Part of Brain Awareness Week, 2009

I‘m not exactly sure when I first noticed my brain, but I didn’t take it too seriously until I was about 21 years old. Oh, sure, I KNEW I had one before then… but I didn’t really spend much time pondering the ins and outs of my personal neural networks.

Mind you, I’d always been fascinated by the human mind. I was all about analyzing personalities, consciousness and cognitive processes. But I thought about them in a vague, abstract and amorphous way… as if what I called the mind was some sort of ethereal hermit crab that took up residence in people’s skulls.

It’s Brain Awareness Week: Do YOU Know Where Your Hippocampus Is?

“If there’s a Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Secretary’s Day, and
Grandparent’s Day…. why isn’t there a KID’s DAY?”
asked a very serious young Miss Deaux,
concerned she was missing out
on her share of pressies.

“Because EVERYDAY is Kid’s Day!”
replied Momma Deaux, looking a bit annoyed.

That’s sort of how I feel about Brain Awareness Week….. EVERYDAY is Brain Awareness Day, here on MindTweaks. Well, at least every day that I crawl out of bed and manage to churn out a vaguely on topic post, that is.
