Brain Builder Blind Date: The After Math
Last week, I had way too much fun with my review of the Brain Builder brain training software, comparing it to a successful blind date, and complaining only that it didn’t bring me chocolates.
Fast forward a few days, and the FedEx guy rang my doorbell unexpectedly, hand delivering a puzzling box. After listening for suspicious ticking noises, I bravely opened it and found a note from the head of AdvancedBrain, the company that makes BrainBuilder:

Brain Builder Review: Train, Track and Relax
Never one to turn down free stuff, I agreed greedily eagerly when Alex Doman offered me a review copy of
Brain Builder - the brain-training software from Advanced Brain Technologies.
The company doesn’t have any online demos available yet (and I was too lazy busy to fully check out their site in advance) so when the delivery guy handed me the box, I wasn’t really sure what to expect.
It was a brain-training blind date.
First impressions count in blind dates, and Brain Builder hit a home run; it showed up wearing a real box and shrink wrapped jewel cases for the CD (the software equivalent of a sports coat) and it was bearing romantic gifts!
What more could a girl ask for?

The Anti-Brain Game Brigade Strikes Again
Caution: Rant Mode On.
Yesterday, when a Twitter friend sent me a link to a newspaper article entitled“Brain Training Games Do More Harm Than Good” I couldn’t help myself. I clicked the link.
And even though I noted the article was in the UK’s Telegraph (not known for exactly stellar journalistic standards), I read on.
Then, as expected? I got ticked off.

N-Backing & MindSparke-ing: What it is, why you should do it.
All About N-Back
Sometime last year, I read about a somewhat confusing, yet convincing technique of brain training, complete with a rather unfriendly name that only a scientist mother could love: “The Dual Task N-Back“.

Do You *Need* Brain Training Software For A Fit Brain?
Brain fitness, brain games and braintraining software seems to be promoted everywhere these days, from the NYTimes to PBS to small blogs (ahem!)
And ok, so you’ve come to understand the importance of brain fitness, and that all these trainers and games are somehow related to it.
But are these software trainers, coaches and games really *necessary*? After all, some of them can be pretty pricey, with the best known programs running hundreds of dollars.
The answer is a bit confusing….
Yes, No, and Maybe!
I know, I know, I’m being unnecessarily obscure here, but the answer really does depend on you.
