The Goal Setting Ghost of Thankfulness Future! A Play Along Meme.
Sometime last year, I wrote a goal-setting post as part of one of those annoying viral meme things. Recently, Reg of Elemental Truths revived it, and I thought…. what the heck. We’ll pull the idea out of storage, polish it up, and become annoyingly viral again!!
Memes are pretty popular in the blogosphere, both because they make for good blog filler, and because they are great for networking and traffic building.
But about THIS meme…

Top 5 Reasons *Not* To Tweak Your Mind!

Over on Problogger, Darren Rowse has started up another Group Writing Project with a theme of “Top 5″. So in the tradition of reverse engineering, I offer you this..
Ahem!
Top Five Reasons NOT to Tweak Your Mind!
- “I’d miss all my invisible friends.” ‘Nuff said.
- “Fix my mind to work better? But then people might expect me to DO … you know… SOMETHING…”
- “My mind is perfect as it is, thank you!” (Oh, I totally relate! That’s why your dog ran away with the UPS guy, you spend every other night in a TV induced stupor and you can’t remember where you put your keys. Don’t fix what’s not broken! )
- “I don’t believe in upgrades. It’s all a scam to get you to buy more stuff.” (Every path to hell begins with one step.. an upgrade! Tell the truth.. you’re still running Windows 95 on a 486, aren’t you? )
- “Shhh… I shouldn’t be telling you this. But the government is behind all this mindtweaking stuff. This so-called “tweak” is really an implant so they can control your thoughts.” You’ve got me. It’s all part of the reptoid-alien plot.
And A Special Bonus Answer:
“MindTweaks? Aren’t those some sort of snack cake?
No thanks, I’m on a diet! “
MindTWEAK: Badumbum!

Enough about me! Let’s talk about YOU! (What do you think of me?)
A week or two ago, my blog-friend Jackie posted a list of “Me Me Me” things. She decided to tag her readers (The Evil Wench! ) and ask that they list “me” things, too. At the risk of justifying those who insist blogs are self-indulgent, here’s a modified list of “Me” things. I thought it would make for a good TGIF fun post.
My Simple Pleasures
- My new dishes. They were on sale. They were cheap. They were simple and not offensive, and I needed some, so I bought them. But the dang things make me smile, every time I use them.
- Browsing and Buying images from iStock Photo. So many of the images are graphic designers dream. I can buy the rights to them for a dollar or two just amazes me. I like possessing them. It makes me smile.
- Blank books. They represent unlimited potential.
- Coffee with heavy cream. Pure decadence.

My Wildest Vision of Success: ‘Gotta Get’ Goals
Blog meme’s are all the rage these days, and even I’m not immune to viral temptations. I’ve caught the “Gotta Get goals” meme.
Here’s the deal: Alex Shalman provided a list of the goals in his life that he’s just “gotta get!” in order to say he’s achieved his wildest dreams. Then he tagged a whole bunch of bloggers, and challenged them to write out their 5-10 “best, most over the top, most exclusive” goals, too. They’re supposed to tag other bloggers, and so on.
No one tagged me, but I wanted to play. I fired up the trusty time machine, projected myself into a blissful, satisfied and successful future, and looked around. These are the goals I came back with:
- Find financial independence. My future vision wasn’t really clear how I’d done this, and if I was stinking rich, it didn’t show. But I’d need to be wealthy enough to be comfortable without worry, to be able to hire in help when I want it, and to help my friends when they need it.
- Write at least one fiction book. Surprisingly, it doesn’t seem to matter if the book is a best seller or self published.. or even if it is published at all. Just the image of a complete manuscript, bound and finished, gives me a sense of satisfaction. Huh.
- Publish a book of my own artwork, accompanied by my own writing. In my imagination, it feels really good to run my fingers across the glossy photos and read my title on the binding, all legit and everything. [click to continue...]
